Up for grabs

For the last 116 years, we’ve been looking after special places. The government’s planning reforms for England threaten green spaces that we all love. Not formal green belt and designated areas like National Parks but the two-thirds of countryside that isn’t protected.

The reforms deliberately skew the system in favour of economic growth. We support growth – but not at all costs. Longer-term, the reforms mean treasured green spaces on the edges of towns and villages disappearing under concrete. Once these spaces are gone, they’re gone for ever. Good planning should protect the environment, look after people’s welfare, as well as promote economic growth.

National Trust wants to get 100,000 signatures to persuade the government to change their perusal, and to preserve our countryside.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION IF YOU CARE ABOUT OUR COUNTRYSIDE!

Wartime Weekend Photos

We had a great wartime weekend at Sutton Hoo!

Thankfully the weather wasn't too bad, and we only had a few spits of rain.

A big thank you to everyone who was involved with the event and helped make it a success!

We did it!!

The chamber is all but finished, apart from one or two little tweaks!

Here's a sneak peek!

Don't forget the grand opening on Friday the 22nd of April.

Tuesday 19 April 2011

The end is nigh...

Well maybe not quite, BUT, the new visitor experience here at Sutton Hoo is nearly ready!

Within a matter of a few days, you will finally be able to step back in time, back 1400 years, to the night of the Warrior King’s burial…

Only a privileged few may enter the King’s final resting place. Only kings, elders and favoured thanes may walk by the King and pay their respects.

You are one of those few….

As you walk through his burial chamber, offering your gift you him, you will see Rædwald buried with the rich regalia and beautiful objects that will ensure he is welcomed by his god, Woden, in Valhalla, Hall of Heroes.

Walking by the King, you smell the candles burning and hear fire crackling. You smell the wood of the boat, the smell of freshly dug earth and of the rich food offerings.

Come along to the official launch day on
Friday, April 22nd
and pay your respects!

Soil and Roof

The soil surround has now went in around our burial chamber. Its now starting to all come together!

The roof is now well underway too, and we have started to do our set design!

Off course, you wont be expected to jump over the saw horse to get inside!
